<p>Dr. Roberto Wenk actively promotes palliative care in primary care settings. Currently, he is developing a new and improved approach to education and management of palliative care. He has made numerous visits to the International Centers of Excellence in Palliative Medicine for many years as well as treating patients in their homes. Home care visits are part of his routine also known as.&#8217; The Bus Rounds&#8217;. Activity takes place in a bus while visiting patients in their homes and facilities. The service also provides interdisciplinary, theoretical and practical activity for primary care physicians and nurses.</p>

<p>Dr. Van Den Eynden&#8217;s academic work focuses on teaching and research in palliative care. At the undergraduate level, he coordinates the module Palliative Medicine and is responsible for the implementation of palliative care within the other undergraduate modules. In the Master Nursing Care program, he teaches Palliative Care and &#8216;Care Ethics.&#8217; He chairs and coordinates the Interuniversity Palliative Medicine Postgraduate Course. Within the Department of Primary, and Interdisciplinary Care and also in cooperation with the Department of Nursing Care, he is developing a strong line in palliative care research. He is project leader of the &#8216;Huisarts in Palliatieve Zorg&#8217; Programma (HiPP), a Golden Standards Framework inspired, interactive ICT-based educational program, allowing general practitioners to ameliorate and to evaluate the quality of the palliative care they deliver.</p>

<p>Dr M.R. Rajagopal feels strongly that the needless pain and suffering from life-limiting diseases in the developing world is scandalous, and works at identifying barriers and strategies to overcome them. He was one of the founders of the pioneering Pain and Palliative Care Society in Calicut in Kerala, India which made palliative care a popular movement in that state and the founder of Pallium India (www.palliumindia.org) which works towards improving access to palliative care in India.</p>

<li>Started the first university-recognized postgraduate course in Pain and Palliative Medicine in India (in Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi), 2004</li>
<li>Founder of a charitable trust by name &#8220;Pallium India&#8221; which aims at improving coverage with quality in palliative care in India, concentrating mostly on areas inadequately addressed by existing organizations, particularly education and rehabilitation, 2003</li>
<li>Worked with the WHO Collaborating Center at Madison-Wisconsin and with Government of India to improve opioid availability in India.  The work has so far resulted in simplification of narcotic regulations in 13 states in India as well as in uninterrupted availability of oral morphine from the Government Opium and Alkaloid factories in India, 1996-current</li>
<li>One of the founders of Pain and Palliative Care Society (PPCS) in Medical College, Calicut, in 1993. In 1995, it was recognized as a model demonstration project by the World Health Organisation, known for its suitability to the socio-cultural needs of the country, for its novel training programs and for its roots in the community. Over ten years, it developed into the biggest Palliative Care Centre in the country incorporating a major &#8220;Institute of Palliative Medicine&#8221; (IPM). Today, it has more than 100 link centres in various parts of Kerala.</li>

<p>Professor Lukas Radbruch is the Chair of Palliative Medicine at the University of Bonn, in the Western part of Germany. He has been the first Chair of Palliative Medicine at the RWTH Aachen University in Aachen from 2003-2010. Professor Radbruch attended medical school in Bonn, Germany, specialized in anaesthesiology and completed his habilitation (the German equivalent of a PhD) in 2000 in Cologne. His main research interests include symptom assessment, opioid treatment, fatigue, cachexia and ethical issues in palliative care. Professor Radbruch is involved in European palliative care research collaboratives and coordinates the project Access To Opioid Medication in Europe, which is funded by the Seventh Framework Programme of the European Commission.</p>

<p>Dr. Henry Ddungu is a consultant with the African Palliative Care Association (APCA), an organization with a mission to ensure palliative care is widely understood, integrated into health systems at all levels, and underpinned by evidence in order to reduce pain and suffering across Africa. He has worked with Palliative Care Organizations in Uganda and Africa initially as a clinician providing palliative care services to terminally ill cancer and AIDS patients and later as an Advocacy Manager for Africa. He has been passionate about teaching and is actively teaching palliative care in Uganda, Ghana, Zambia, Tanzania, Malawi, Kenya, Namibia, Swaziland, Lesotho, Mozambique, Botswana, Nigeria, Rwanda and Sierra Leone. His focus is seeing that all those in need of palliative care, including opioids, can access them throughout Africa.</p>

<p>Dr. Eric Krakauer previously served as Director and Senior Consultant in Palliative Care of the Vietnam-CDC-Harvard Medical School AIDS Partnership (VCHAP), an organization he founded in 2002. In these roles, he has trained over one thousand Vietnamese physicians and nurses in HIV/AIDS care and palliative care. Currently, he is assisting Vietnam&#8217;s Ministry of Health to integrate palliative care into HIV/AIDS and cancer care nationwide. He practices internal medicine and palliative care at Massachusetts General Hospital where he previously directed the Fellowship Program in Palliative Medicine and currently serves as Co-Chair of the hospital&#8217;s ethics committee. he International Program of the Harvard Medical School Center for Palliative Care, based at Massachusetts General Hospital, provides training and technical assistance in pain relief and palliative care to Ministries of Health, hospitals, and colleagues in developing countries. We assist with integration of palliative care into comprehensive care for patients with cancer, HIV/AIDS, and other serious chronic illnesses.</p>

<p>Dr. Dudgeon is the Director of the Palliative Care Medicine Program at Queen&#8217;s University. The Program provides clinical care in the community, and consultation and primary care in Kingston General Hospital and St Mary&#8217;s of the Lake and outpatient clinics in the Cancer Center of Southeastern Ontario. <p>Dr. Priyadarshini Kulkarni is the Medical Director at Cipla Palliative Care and Training Centre, Pune, India. She heads a team of Doctors, Nurses, Medical Social workers and Volunteers that provides holistic palliative care to cancer patients, free of cost. This centre provides inpatient, outpatient and homecare services.</p>
<p>Dr Kulkarni also initiates training programs at the centre for professionals from various walks of life, including new members of the team, especially in the areas of pain management, symptom control and counselling. She is committed to establish palliative services all over Maharashtra State.</p>

<p>Dr. Vadim Pogonet is an anesthesiologist-intensive care specialist in the Institute of Oncology, Republic of Moldova. With competence in palliative care and chronic pain, he is also involved in supporting the development of Palliative Care in his country. To increase awareness about palliative care, he develops documents that push forward cancer pain control and palliative care in Moldova. Recently, with the support of the OSF and the local Soros organization, he is promoting palliative care, as Mobile Multidisciplinary Team, in the Institute of Oncology, the only medical institution in Moldova dealing with cancer treatment.</p>
