Dr. Urska Lunder has played a leading role in Slovenia in developing and delivering organized palliative care to patients and their families. After pioneering the bone marrow transplantation procedures implementation in the transplantation team at the University Clinical Center Ljubljana, she shifted her career towards development of palliative care. With her colleagues she founded the Palliative Care Development Institute Ljubljana in 2000. She is particularly interested in the education of communication in palliative care, where she’s developed innovative teaching models with experiential interactive learning and role playing. Through her work at the Palliative Care Development Institute Ljubljana, Dr. Lunder is committed to establishing palliative care teams and units in Slovenia’ major health care institutions.

Dr Mhoira Leng is a palliative care physician committed to working to integrate palliative care into health systems and to support the development of equality of access to palliative care. She has a particular interest in international palliative care and is committed to working alongside partners in the developing world to build capacity, offer mentorship, support curriculum development and new models of care. Since 1998 she has travelled to Eastern Europe, extensively within India as well as Africa leaving the NHS UK in 2005 to allow her to work full time in international settings.

Dr. Priyadarshini Kulkarni is the Medical Director at Cipla Palliative Care and Training Centre, Pune, India. She heads a team of Doctors, Nurses, Medical Social workers and Volunteers that provides holistic palliative care to cancer patients, free of cost. This centre provides inpatient, outpatient and homecare services.

Dr Kulkarni also initiates training programs at the centre for professionals from various walks of life, including new members of the team, especially in the areas of pain management, symptom control and counselling. She is committed to establish palliative services all over Maharashtra State.

Dr. Ladislav Kabelka received his Doctor of Medicine in 1997 at Masaryk University, Brno-Czech Republic. He attended the Czech Medical Chamber in and received his licensing in Geriatrics and Internal medicine, with specialization in the treatment of pain and palliative medicine in 2004. He finished postgraduate studies in the Management of Non Cancer Palliative Care, and obtained a license in Clinical Nutrition in 2009.Other interest include the research in Geriatrics Syndrome of Dementia, Internal Medicine and the Advancement of Heart Failure. He is also involved in the research development of palliative and hospice care in the treatment of pain and non-cancer diseases, as well as providing care and bereavement to patients and care givers.

Dr. Krakauer is Assistant Professor of Medicine and of Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School and a practicing internist and palliative medicine specialist at Massachusetts General Hospital where he also co-chairs the Clinical Ethics Committee. He has been working in Vietnam since 2001 when he founded the Vietnam-CDC-Harvard Medical School AIDS Partnership (VCHAP) to provide training and technical assistance in HIV/AIDS treatment to Vietnam's physicians and nurses and thereby to help enable introduction and scale-up of anti-retroviral therapy.

Based in the Palliative Care Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital, this Program provides training and technical assistance in pain relief and palliative care to Ministries of Health, hospitals, and colleagues in developing countries. In Vietnam, Dr. Krakauer has collaborated with major cancer centers and general hospitals to integrate pain relief and palliative care into comprehensive care for patients with cancer, HIV/AIDS, and other serious chronic illnesses. He is also working with Partners In Health, an NGO based at Harvard Medical School, to integrate palliative care into cancer and non-communicable disease treatment programs in Rwanda and Malawi.

Alexandra coordinates the International Palliative Medicine Fellowship Program and the International Visitors Program. She also assists with coordinating the International Palliative Care Leadership Development Initiative conferences. Alexandra has led advocacy campaigns to improve public health and safety in San Diego County neighborhoods and the San Diego-Tijuana border region. She has trained community members on how to be effective media spokespersons, developed and executed media advocacy plans, and designed and implemented data collection tools, including training community members on how to conduct surveys. Alexandra is passionate about learning from people from diverse cultures and building bridges across personal, community and international boundaries.

Prof. John Ellershaw was appointed Medical Director at the Marie Curie Hospice Liverpool and Clinical Director at the Directorate of Palliative Care at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital in 1994. He has contributed to the development of specialist palliative care services in Liverpool. He has led the development of palliative care education at undergraduate and postgraduate level within the University of Liverpool and has been involved in the development of the research and development programmes. In June 2005 he became Honorary Professor of Palliative Medicine at the University of Liverpool. This is the first Chair in Palliative Medicine at the University of Liverpool and provides a focal point for future educational and research developments; the main research theme is care of the dying.
