Dr. Marta León is focused on education, availability of opioids and home care programs in palliative care. She has published many articles related to barriers to an adequate availability of opioids and educational programs for undergraduate medical students.

Dr. Israel Kayode Kolawole is an Anesthetist and a Palliative care provider. He is currently a lecturer in the University of Ilorin and an honorary consultant at the University of IIorin Teaching Hospital. The Teaching Hospital, with Dr. Kolawole’s guidance, is currently exploring opportunities of working in partnership with Kwara State Government to extend the scope and reach of palliative care service to the rural communities within the state. As an Anesthetist, he has always demonstrated special interest in Regional Anesthesia and Pain Management. His goals are to ensure Government commitment to palliative care in Kwara State, Nigeria and broaden the coverage of palliative care. He strives to ensure regular opioid availability and integration of palliative care into the National health care delivery system.

Dr Anjum Khan Joad coordinates the palliative care unit at the, Bhagwan Mahaveer Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Jaipur, India. The unit serves to offer palliative care education to all doctors and nurses in the local area. She is particularly interested in improving pain management for both adults and children, especially those with life threatening illnesses for whom a good quality of life is a priority. She has lectured in various venues in India and hopes to get Pain and Palliative care curriculums offered to all healthcare workers in India.

Dr. Samuel Guma is the Executive Director and one of the founding members of Kawempe Home Care, a private non-profit charity organization that was started in July 2007 by a group of devoted health professionals to provide free comprehensive care to people with HIV/AIDS and Cancer in Kawempe division Kampala, Uganda. Their focus is to ensure constant improvement to the quality of life of their patients through the provision of compassionate holistic care by a multidisciplinary team of health professionals. Their Core values are Honesty, Integrity, Non-Discrimination, Compassion and Excellence. His future goals are to be actively involved in spreading palliative care all over Africa through project development, research and training of health professionals. He also hopes to develop the organization into a center of excellence for provision of home based palliative care and home based palliative care training center for health professionals.

Dr. Eva Duarte founded, in 2005, and actually directs the Department of Symptom Control and Palliative Medicine at the Instituto de Cancerogia (INCAN), the non-profit Cancer Center of Reference for Guatemala.

She founded, in 2013, and actually directs the UNIPALIA, the Palliative Care Department at Sanatorio Nuestra Señora Del Pilar in Guatemala.

She is the President of the Guatemalan Association of Palliative Medicine, formed in 2013.

She has impulsed the post-graduate education in palliative care the Faculty of Medicine at the University of San Carlos, Guatemala through a Post-Graduate Palliative Care course for faculty professors. During 2012-2014, two cohorts with approximately 70 students received 350 hours of semi-presential education in palliative care.

She directs an undergraduate education palliative care course for medical students at Mariano Galvez University and teaches palliative care to Anesthesiology and Internal Medicine residents in an elective practice modality.

Dr. Odontuya Davaasuren is particularly interested in strategies for integrating palliative care into existing healthcare system of Mongolia and developing palliative care policy, education, drug availability, advocacy to improve quality of life for Mongolian palliative care patients. She was mother of palliative care in Mongolia. She has established the Mongolian Palliative Care Society, Palliative Care Resource Training Center in Mongolia, published handbooks for doctors, nurses, voluntary care givers, organized Conferences and courses on palliative care, participated in establishing Palliative Care Standard and other legislative acts, spoken widely on multiple palliative care subjects.
