Dr. Hudson is a registered nurse with 15 years' experience in palliative care practice, education and research. He is a board member of International Association of Hospice and Palliative Care. Peter coordinates The University of Melbourne's multidisciplinary postgraduate course aimed at preparing health care professionals for specialist palliative care provision. He is former Vice President of Palliative Care Victoria and a member of The Victorian Government Department of Health policy advisory committee.

Peter's research covers palliative care service delivery, psychosocial support and symptom management. He has a particular interest in developing and evaluating strategies to improve psychosocial support for families affected by advanced disease. He has published approximately 40 articles and, in 2009, co-edited a book that focuses on the ways in which health care professionals provide evidence-based support to family carers of patients diagnosed with life-threatening illness. He is Co-founder of the International Palliative Care Family Carer Research Collaboration, which operates under the auspices of the European Association of Palliative Care and is co-lead of an EAPC Taskforce aimed at enhancing support provided to family carers.
