Dr. Tham completed her MBBS from the National University of Singapore in 1998 and received her Master of Medicine (Psychiatry) in 2006. She speaks English, Mandarin and Teochew.
Wai Yong is a psychiatrist at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, a general hospital with a dedicated palliative medicine department. She manages patients with challenging psychological symptoms ranging from Axis I to Axis II disorders, grief reactions, post-traumatic stress reactions, as well as unique psychological reactions to various aspects of their illness. She also works with palliative patients who have significant psychological symptoms. Since 2010, she has been a member of Tan Tock Seng Hospital's End-of-Life Taskforce, which aims to lay down processes of care that facilitates care of the terminally ill in the hospital.
Wai Yong is being sponsored through the Ministry of Health under the 'Health Manpower Development Programme', to be the first to set up a formal psychiatry-palliative care service in Singapore.
